Basics of Board Service: Nonprofit Board of Directors Responsibilities in Governance & Fundraising

Thursday, May 23, 2024 (2:30 PM - 4:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Boards of directors are the strategic leaders of nonprofit organizations. They are responsible for governance and for playing a significant role in fundraising to support the organization's mission. But it isn't always easy for board directors/trustees to understand what the term "governance" encompasses. Nor is it always clear how much involvement in fundraising is expected and how to go about it. This workshop explains the expectations of board service and gives actionable ideas for how directors/trustees can engage with paid staff to enhance the organization's fundraising strategy and efforts. The session is suited for those new to board service and those who've been serving on boards for years.

WORKSHOP OUTCOMES

Webinar attendees will leave the session:

- understanding the core governance responsibilities of boards of directors

- knowing the importance of year-round board recruitment and expectation setting

- with tools to identify their organization's diverse needs in director/trustee recruitment

- understanding the need for an organizational culture that positively embraces fundraising

- able to articulate the board of directors role in fundraising and know specifics of how they can personally participate

- with knowledge of the various types of fundraising and the need to employ methods strategically
